how does glitter multiply...?

Really. You open one sparkly holiday card and next thing you know, It's on everything you touch. How does that happen? All I can think is that there has to some Divine participation because, in this house, it sometimes rivals every last loaf and fish.

So what's this mess? What is she up to now? These are the ornaments for the swap I mentioned yesterday. I knew I wanted to do some sort of gingerbread man for the show but I didn't want them crocheted or sewn. After much research (I think because my brain was fried and I wasn't thinking straight anymore by Friday) I decided to make salt dough. I added ginger and nutmeg and allspice and cinnamon for smell and that cute speckle-y look. But when they came out of the oven, they looked.....boring.
Here they are naked.

So after staring at them on the counter for awhile and ruling out all sorts of regular decorations, I decided maybe a little heart would be cute. But it wasn't enough. And having been smelling all those spices all afternoon, I started to think sugar.
Aha! Break out that glitter!

I had some coarser stuff hanging around and I think it was just right. I can't tell you how many people at the show were severely disappointed to hear they weren't edible. I can't wait to see how they sparkle on the tree with the lights.

Now they're all packaged up and off on trips all over the US and UK.
Oops. lost one.....

Would you like one of these babies for your tree, too? Leave a comment and I'll have the boys pick a name. really from a hat this time.

And this has been on my mind: This year, I realized: I don't know how to make everything I want to give, but I do know how to make some things fairly well. And trying to barter my goods may be something worth a go. I think everyone should consider it. Knitting for crochet. Sewing for sculpted. What do you think? Would you barter if one of your readers had something you were interested in to offer?

I think that trading things is the best! It's fun and it's a great way to get something you don't know how to do or sometimes don't have the time to do. I have even traded with people that do similar things to me, everyone has their own style and way of making things, and sometimes it's fun to own someone else's handiwork even though it is something I could make myself!

Bartering sounds good. My good friend and I actually do it... I just made her a dolly for her daughter and in exchange, she's making me a necklace and bracelet.
I guess I never thought about doing it for the holidays, though!

I would love to barter, and I completely agree with you about glitter--my whole car is full of it and I don't even know where it came from!
