point of view

Last summer, the city cut down a very large, very old maple tree from the sidewalk by our side yard and Paul and I were sad and upset. It left the whole yard exposed on one side, and took away shade, and it had been there forever, you get the idea.

But when the paving crew came last week to patch up the sidewalk properly, complete with giant dump truck, tiny steamroller and backhoe; one little boy couldn't have been happier for that tree to be gone.

I'll have to write a thank you note to the D.P.W. for giving me an hour of peace, and him an hour of joy.
